How Our Thighplasty Procedures Work
Patients undergoing a thighplasty have the choice of undergoing anesthesia or complete IV sedation, as this is a minimally invasive procedure that requires a number of cuts to be made throughout the thighs. Our plastic surgeons use strategically placed incisions that minimize scarring while maximizing results. During this procedure, these incisions will be used to pull your skin taught against your thighs, removing excess skin and fat in the process.
Types Of Thigh Reduction
Inner (Medial) Thigh Lift
The least invasive of the two main types of thighplasty offered, medial thigh lifts are preferred when the goal is to remove excess skin and fat on the inside of the patient’s thighs. The incisions for this kind of thigh lift follow the crease along the upper thigh, resulting in minimal scarring that blends in with the natural contours of the body.
Outer (Bilateral) Thigh Lift
Bilateral thigh lifts are ideal for patients who want to improve the appearance of their outer thighs. These incisions, while larger, are likewise hidden within the natural folds of the patient’s body. They begin in the groin area and continue out and around the patient’s hip along the bikini line.
Thigh Reduction vs. Liposuction
Unlike traditional liposuction procedures, which exclusively target excess fat through a suctioning technique, thigh reduction surgeries are all-encompassing. This kind of procedure involves the surgical removal of both fat and loose skin, making it simultaneously more invasive and effective than liposuction alone.

You will awake in the recovery room with a compression garment on. You will also have a drain in each of your thighs that will be removed in about one to two weeks.
Keep the compression garment on for 48 hours following the procedure. You can shower and replace the garment on the second postoperative day.
A thighplasty is an outpatient procedure, meaning patients return home the day of the surgery. Patients are required to wear a compression garment throughout the day and night for the first four weeks following the procedure to minimize swelling. Dr. David Mateo de Acosta also recommends patients sleep with their legs elevated on pillows for two weeks. This position helps with swelling and promotes healing.
The day after your procedure, you will be asked to return to the facility for a follow-up appointment with Dr. David Mateo de Acosta to address any questions or concerns you may have. With consistent healthy eating and exercise, patients should be able to enjoy their new thighs for years to come.
