Mini-Tummy Tuck Surgeryin Gainesville, FL

A mini-tummy tuck or mini-abdominoplasty is indicated in those patients who are not candidates for a full abdominoplasty and have a slight excess of skin which makes them poor candidates for a liposuction only procedure. A mini tummy tuck is a smaller procedure than a traditional abdominoplasty and is designed to primarily improve the contour of the abdomen below the belly button. A mini-abdominoplasty involves a shorter scar than a traditional abdominoplasty. It also may involve more aggressive liposuction than may be safely performed during a traditional abdominoplasty. Muscle repair may be performed as indicated. A mini-tummy tuck is therefore the ideal treatment for a patient with minimal amount of excess skin usually overhanging a c-section scar with a moderate amount of extra fat deposits primarily in the lower abdomen. The belly button can be managed in one of two ways during a mini-tummy tuck. It can be left attached to the abdominal wall and will be pulled slightly downward as the excess skin and fat are removed form the lower abdomen. The belly button can also be “floated”. If a “float” is performed, the belly button is freed from the abdominal wall but left attached to the abdominal skin and relocated usually no more than 2 centimeters inferiorly. Compared with traditional abdominoplasty, there is minimal downtime with a mini-tummy tuck.

Mini Tummy Tuck Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few of the commonly asked questions regarding liposuction surgery. We understand that patients often have many other questions, and we strongly encourage you to write them down and bring them with you to your consultation. Dr. Tyrone is happy to answer any question you may have, and believes the most informed patients are the most satisfied patients.

During your consultation, Dr. Tyrone will discuss the differences between a mini tummy tuck and a standard (or full) tummy tuck. Generally, the best candidates for a mini tummy tuck are those patients with skin and fatty tissue excess that is confined to the area below the belly button. The patient should also have good muscle tone to the abdominal muscles.
During your initial mini-abdominoplasty consultation, Dr. Tyrone will inquire about your medical and surgical history including current medications and allergies. It is important to be thorough when discussing your medical history as safety is Dr. Tyrone’s top priority. Your full disclosure of all pertinent medical information prior to surgery will reduce the incidence of unwanted complications after surgery. You will discuss your concerns and motivations for seeking a mini-tummy tuck. Details of the mini-abdominoplasty will be discussed including incision placement as well what is expected of you preoperatively and postoperatively. The risks of surgery will also be discussed in detail. Numerous before and after photographs of actual patients will be reviewed during your consultation.

You will then be asked to put a gown on. Dr. Tyrone will then carefully examine the areas which concern you. Proposed incisions will be demonstrated. The length of the incision for a mini-abdominoplasty is typically much shorter than for a traditional abdominoplasty. A surgical plan customized to your needs will then be discussed with you by Dr. Tyrone. Dr. Tyrone encourages you to ask any questions during you consultation. Following your consultation, you will meet with Dr. Tyrone’s patient coordinator to discuss scheduling your surgery and answer any questions you may have forgotten to ask.

Body contouring surgery is not an exact science. Although the majority of patients experience no complications, Dr. Tyrone will discuss potential risks and complications of mini-abdominoplasty surgery at the time of your consultation. Prior to undergoing mini-tummy tuck surgery with Dr. Tyrone, it is important for you to fully understand the risks and potential complications associated with your procedure.
Once you have scheduled your mini-abdominoplasty surgery with Dr. Tyrone, you will be given preoperative instructions which discuss everything from finances to follow-up visits after your surgery. Prior to your mini-tummy tuck surgery, you will need basic blood work and medical clearance form your primary medical doctor. You will receive prescriptions form Dr. Tyrone’s patient coordinator prior to surgery. It is important to have the medication prescriptions filled in the days prior to your surgery so they are waiting for you when you return home from surgery.

You will receive a list of medications (i.e. aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) to avoid for 14 days prior to your mini-abdominoplasty surgery with Dr. Tyrone. Additionally, though there is no scientific proof that certain medications reduce bruising, swelling and pain after mini-tummy tuck surgery, you will be asked to obtain Arnica Montana, Bromelain and Vitamin A pills to take prior to and after your procedure. Finally, the night before surgery, shower and wash as you would normally and do not eat or drink after midnight.
Assuming you were a good candidate for a mini-tummy tuck, you will see a noticeable improvement in your body’s contour soon after surgery. Improvement continues for up to six months after surgery as the swelling subsides and skin contraction becomes maximal. Provided you maintain a stable weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly, you will be able to maintain your new shape.
